Who we are
Origins
Cantine Animas was founded in 2018 in Berchiddeddu, a small village in the Gallura region near Olbia, although our roots run much deeper. In fact, the agricultural company was originally established in the 1970s, born from the love our grandfather, Giuseppino Mazzone, had for his land. It was then that he decided to plant his first vineyard. Our grandfather’s story is one of social redemption: forced to leave his homeland in search of work and a better future, after many years of sacrifice he returned home and purchased the very land where, as a child in the 1940s, he had worked as a shepherd boy. This marked the beginning of our family’s dream. In the early 2000s, our father Davide— a sommelier and passionate wine enthusiast— took over the reins of the company. Under his leadership, the business entered a phase of renewal, embracing a more entrepreneurial approach and expanding with the planting of new vineyards.

The Birth of Cantine Animas
In 2018, we—Alessandro and Marco—finally joined the company, giving it the momentum that brought our family’s dream to life with the creation of Cantine Animas.
Until then, our activity was limited to selling grapes and producing bulk wine for home use.
“Animas” has many layers, many reflections. For us, it represents the thread that connects the souls of our family: our grandfather, our father, and us.
Identity
“Animas” is also deeply connected to the history of our land. In fact, our logo features a symbol often found carved into the “Domus de Janas”—ancient rock-cut tombs scattered across Sardinia.
These hypogean burial sites date back to the Neolithic period, and the spiral motifs engraved within them are believed to represent souls—“animas” in Sardinian.
So for us, “Animas” is not only the story of our family, but also the story of our land. It is a name that carries memory, meaning, and spirit—uniting past and present, roots and identity.

The company
Today, the company cultivates around 13 hectares of vineyards, divided into two distinct areas: the first in the historical heart of the estate, in the inland hills of Berchiddeddu, and the second in the countryside of Loiri.
All our vineyards are farmed under the Integrated Production system (SQNPI)—a national quality certification in Italy that promotes sustainable agriculture and environmental protection.
We grow both native and international grape varieties, including: Cannonau, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Vermentino, Moscato.
Each variety is cultivated with the utmost care, aiming to express the full potential of our terroir and to produce wines with authenticity, balance, and soul.
